New Long-Haul Routes: May 2015

This has been a crazy month for airlines in terms of global expansion. Specifically, the Gulf Three airlines (Emirates, Qatar, and Etihad) have continued their quest to serve every airport in the world. Since more and more new long-haul routes are being introduced all the time, I have decided to start summarizing the additions on a monthly basis. Here are all the new long-haul international routes announced this month. Aeromexico (AM): -AM will begin daily flights from Mexico City (MEX) to Vancouver, Canada (YVR) using Boeing B737-700 aircraft. Flights begin December 2015. Air China (CA): -CA will begin 3 weekly flights from Beijing-Capital (PEK) to Montreal, Canada (YUL) using Boeing B777-300ER aircraft. Service begins September 2015 Air New Zealand (NZ): -NZ will begin 5 weekly flights from Auckland (AKL) to Houston, TX (IAH) using Boeing 777-200 aircraft. Flights begin December 2015. American Airlines (AA): -Beginning August 2015, AA will begin transitioning all flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to the Hawaiian Islands (Honolulu, Kauai, Kahului, and Kona) from Boeing B757-200 aircraft to a subfleet of Airbus A321 ETOPS aircraft. The currently used B757s will move to Phoenix and US Airways' B757s will be retired. -AA will transition flights between Chicago (ORD) and Tokyo-Narita (NRT) from Boeing B777-200 aircraft to the Boeing B787-8 beginning August 2015. Service will also be increase from 5 times a week to daily. Arkefly (OR): -OR will begin 1 weekly flight from Eindhoven, Netherlands (EIN) to Curacao (CUR) and onto Aruba (AUA) using Boeing B787 aircraft. Flights begin November 2015. -OR will begin 2 weekly flights from Amsterdam (AMS) to Saint Maarten (SXM) and onto Curacao (CUR) using Boeing B787 aircraft. Flights begin November 2015. British Airways (BA): -BA is deploying the Boeing B787 on 5 weekly flights from London (LHR) to Tel Aviv, Israel (TLV) beginning October 2015. The flights currently use Boeing B777 and A321 aircraft. -BA is upgrading the new daily service between London-Heathrow (LHR) and Austin, TX (AUS) from Boeing B787 to Boeing B777-200 aircraft beginning October 2015 Delta Air Lines (DL): -DL will begin 5 weekly flights between Orlando, Florida (MCO) and Sao Paulo, Brazil (GRU) using Boeing B767-300ER aircraft. Flights begin December 2015. Emirates (EK): -EK will begin daily service from Dubai, UAE (DXB) to Bologna, Italy (BLQ) using Boeing B777-300ER aircraft. Service begins November 2015 Etihad (EY): -EY will be operating the brand-new Boeing B787-9 on existing daily service between Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Singapore (SIN) beginning August 2015 Icelandair (FI): -FI will begin 4 weekly flights from Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF) to Chicago (ORD) using Boeing 757s. Flights begin March 2016. Philippine Airlines (PR): -PR will begin 3 weekly flights from Manila, Philippines (MNL) to Cairns, Australia (CNS) and onto Auckland, New Zealand (AKL) using A320s. Flights begin December 2015. Qatar Airways (QR): -QR is deploying the brand-new Airbus A350-900XWB on existing flights from Doha (DOH) to Munich, Germany (MUC). 7 weekly flights will switch to the type in October 2015 with the remaining 7 weekly flights switching over in November 2015. -QR is adding a second daily A380 flight from Doha (DOH) to Bangkok (BKK). This will bring total flights on the route to 28 a week (14x A380 and 14x B777-300ER) -QR will begin daily flights between Doha (DOH) and Los Angeles (LAX) using Boeing B777-200LR aircraft. Flights begin January 2016 -QR will begin daily flights between Doha (DOH) and Boston (BOS) using Airbus A350-900XWB aircraft. Flights begin March 2016 -QR will begin daily flights between Doha (DOH) and Atlanta (ATL) using Boeing B777-200LR aircraft. Flights begin July 2016 -QR will begin a second daily flight between Doha (DOH) and New York (JFK) using Airbus A350-900XWB aircraft. The second daily flight begins March 2016, complementing the existing daily Boeing B777-300ER on the route. Scoot (TZ): -TZ will begin 6 weekly flights from Singapore (SIN) to Osaka, Japan (KIX) using brand new Boeing B787-9 aircraft. 3 of the flights will stop in Bangkok, Thailand (DMK) and the other 3 will stop in Kaohsiung, Taiwan (KHH). Flights begin July 2015. Thomas Cook Airlines (MT): -MT will begin 2 weekly flights from Manchester, UK (MAN) to Los Angeles (LAX) using Airbus A330 aircraft. Flights begin May 2016. -MT will begin 2 weekly flights from Manchester, UK (MAN) to Boston (BOS) using Airbus A330 aircraft. Flights will begin May 2016. Turkish Airlines (TK): -TK will begin daily flights from Istanbul (IST) to Miami (MIA) using Boeing B777-300ER aircraft. Flights begin October 2015 -TK will begin 3 weekly flights from Istanbul (IST) to Maputo, Mozambique (MPM) with a stop in Johannesburg, South Africa (JNB) using Airbus A330 aircraft. Flights begin October 2015. United Airlines (UA): -UA is deploying the brand new Boeing B787-9 on flights between Houston (IAH) and London-Heathrow (LHR). 7 out of 21 weekly flights will be operated by the type, beginning March 2016.
