Chicago based United Airlines today announced which international routes its first 787 Dreamliners will be utilized on. The state of the aircraft’s first destinations will include Lagos Nigeria, Tokyo, Shanghai, London, and Amsterdam.
United announced earlier this year that the 787 will be utilized on flights from Denver to Tokyo’s Narita Airport. This service will begin on March 31 of next year. 5 weekly flights will begin on January 7 from Houston-Bush to Lagos, Nigeria. Daily Dreamliner service between LAX and Tokyo Narita will begin on January 3. Daily flights will also begin from LAX to Shanghai on February 4.
The 787 will also be utilized on seasonal routes to Europe. Daily flights from Houston to Amsterdam-Schipol and London-Heathrow will begin in December and February respectively.
United currently has 50 of the state-of-the-art Dreamliners on order and is very excited about it. The aircraft is very economically efficient but at the same time offers passengers one of the most comfortable and relaxing cabins out there. The 787′s will allow the airline to expand services to routes that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. An example is the new 787 service from Denver to Tokyo. This is the first service directly linking Denver to Asia.
Flights between Denver and Narita are already available for purchase. Other international 787 flights will go on sale starting August 25th.
What’s the most exciting part of United getting 787′s? They are also going to be utilized on domestic US flights. That’s right! You won’t have to fork over thousands of dollars on international tickets in order to try out United’s newest plane. United says those domestic routes will be announced soon, and that they will actually begin before the international flights. My guesses for domestic placement of the 787 is flights between Chicago, Houston, and Washington-Dulles.

I’ll definitely take a trip over to Houston to see one of these puppies fly. It boggles my mind how economical they must be since I understand that they carry far less passengers than the other big airliners.
Boeing says two 787s can fly more passengers to given destination with lower costs than one A380
